Hello everyone,

I recently came across some advice regarding application fee waivers. It suggests that if an applicant submits their application under the financial hardship fee waiver, there might be a higher likelihood of rejection, especially from schools like Tuck, Wharton, NYU and Stanford.

I’m curious to know your thoughts on this matter. Have any of you experienced or heard about such situations? Any insights would be appreciated.

Thank you.

They don’t look at it as much. More like a tie breaker if anything

You’re not wrong to assume that. Doesn’t automatically dismiss you so long as you’re meeting their admissions criteria. I think - and this is an assumption- they’ll most likely think that you’re about to get a $200k degree and you’re shying away from $250.

But there’s no case I’ve seen but again, I never observed it, so I know how they think, so you could be right in assuming this. Basically they eliminate all red flags. This seems to affect their acceptance rate Because those that can’t afford it usually end up declining admissions offer. So, definitely a Yellow flag for them and the higher you go in ranking (as in , in top 10s) these small things kinda affect their rankings so their risk mitigation will be as delicate.

For NYU Stern's Tech MBA, how much is the initial deposit? How long do they give people to decide? Thanks!

Hi All,

I have following questions:

1. How high EA score is acceptable to the school? I'm an international student from India.
2. Would Stern consider my score below than someone who has a 99%ile GMAT score?
3. Since Stern's R3 is about the same time as other schools' R2, would applying in R3 be detrimental to my chances?

Any responses would be immensely helpful. Thanks

Hello Kalpit1212,

I hope you are doing good. To answer your questions-

1. EA Score Acceptability: The EA score requirements can vary from one business school to another. Generally, top MBA programs have their own guidelines for EA scores, and these may differ from GMAT/GRE score expectations.

2. Comparing EA and GMAT Scores: NYU Stern, like many other top MBA programs, considers a variety of factors when evaluating applicants. While a high GMAT or GRE score is typically seen as a positive factor, it is just one component of your application. Your work experience, leadership qualities, essays, recommendations, and interview performance are equally important. If your EA score is lower than someone with a 99th percentile GMAT score, it may be a factor in their favor, but it doesn't necessarily mean they will be preferred over you. It depends on the overall strength of your application.

3. Applying in R3 vs. R2: Applying in Round 3 can be more competitive than earlier rounds because many seats may have already been filled in previous rounds. However, it's not necessarily detrimental to your chances. Admissions committees understand that international applicants, especially those from countries like India, might have different timelines due to various factors. If your application is strong and well-prepared, applying in Round 3 can still result in an admission offer. The key is to ensure that your application is as competitive as possible, regardless of the round you choose.

Is there a separate topic for Stern's Tech MBA?

Sep 17 at 12:54pm

can someone please guide me on how and when to apply for scholarships? Do we apply during application or post receiving an admit

Sep 17 at 01:32pm

You should be considered for a scholarship with the same application. I believe there’s no separate merit scholarship application. There are some applications for specific groups that I believe are to be filed through the respective organizations the people are affiliated with.

Hi guys, Stern website mentions that the pick six essay would be transferred from the previous application in case of a reapplicant. However, on opening the application page, it still asks to submit the essay. Can someone tell if we can change our pick six and how would it impact the admissions process? will they accept the updated pick six essay?
