Hi Everyone! Thanks for joining. We will be having a Wharton Chat session with recent Wharton admits in about 20 mins (right after the AdCOm Zoom Session Ends). You can learn about what worked to get into the program, about the profile of the admitted applicant, and of course ask your questions. Feel free to post a few if you have them already 👍

Hi, what are the most common mistakes do you find that applicants do that affects the applications ?

Jun 13 at 09:04am

hi! this is Priyanka. I’ll be going to Wharton this year for my full time MBA. I come from a tech background. I am from India and my GMAT score is 760. Happy to answer any questions on the application process

Hey everyone, my name is Ankush and I am joining from Bengaluru, India. I’ll be joining Wharton this year. I am a software engineer at Microsoft and my post-mba goal is to get into Product management in tech.

The most common mistake is ignoring the importance of your resume

I think one of the more common mistakes is trying to retrofit your application to what you think the school wants instead of genuinely projecting your strengths

the single piece of document should be highly effective independently

My question is w.r.t Admission perspective because I m worried after having 15 yrs of work exp. at hand and applying to full-time MBA at WHARTON for making a pivot to Demography, Industry, and Job Function. Is the WHARTON ADCOMS open to offering a seat to aspirants like me applying at 38 and still be willing to accept considering a younger and highly competitive applicant pool?

Jun 13 at 09:06am

Hi, is the work ex counted as on the date of application or as on the date of program start?

Jun 13 at 09:06am

Is there any difference between applying R1 or R2? Assuming that we have everything ready for any of them, on which we should focus?

Jun 13 at 09:07am

Hi Priyanka, first Congratulations!, second, can you please elabore on your GMAT journey, how long and how did you prepare to score 760

they ask you how much experience you would have when you join the school as part of the application.

you should apply when your application is the strongest imo. For example: if you recently joined a company and want some work ex, then maybe applying in round 2 would make more sense since you would have had enough time to create impact at work.

thank you! I prepared for 2 months. I didn’t enroll into any courses, but I bought a mock series to practice

That’s helpful, thanks! Would you advise someone with a GMAT 760 and 2 years of work ex to apply to Wharton, or would you rather suggest gaining more work ex before going for the application?

I think you might need to work hard to justify why you want to pivot after working in a domain for 15 years. You would definitely be an outlier. Sorry I don’t mean to demotivate you, but maybe an executive MBA might make more sense in your case

It all depends on how you’re selling yourself to the adcom. if your story makes sense to them, they’ll be happy to admit you. You have to present a strong reason for why you are looking for an MBA now and why not Executive MBA

I’ll suggest to wait for atleast a couple of years and when you have your strongest application ready, go for it. They tend to prefer candidates within 4-6 work ex.

If you can show that you’ve created impact and have shown leadership in these two years then you should apply! However, in most cases applying later might have more benefits because you could get a promotion and get more opportunities to create meaningful impact.

So, instead of submitting a weaker app now and then reapplying later, it’s better to give a single perfect shot.
