Hello Everyone,
My name is Khushboo Hussain. I have been working as a software developer for 8+ years now. I applied to Yale SOM in Round 2 of Fall ’23 Intake and got admitted. Let me know if you have any questions about the Yale SOM Application process. I will be happy to help.

Hi Khushboo! Congrats for getting the admit. Can you please let me know if I can get my LORs written from the founder of the NGOs that I am volunteering with?

Hi Khushboo, what would be your advice for someone who belongs to a competitive group, but want to differentiate themselves in the application. For example, should they mention the details of what exactly they did differently, should they focus on outcome, etc.

or anything else what you might have done during your application process

You sure can. The only thing is whoever writes your recommendation should have worked closely with you to provide specific instances of where you showed a certain leadership quality. It is best to get recommendation from someone (supervisor) who has worked closely with you. The position of recommender in the org you are working in does not have as much impact as you would think it has. The quality of recommendation is what the adcom is looking at.

I applied to Yale SOM in R1 2022 for the Fall ’23 intake and was fortunate to get an admit. I worked in life sciences consulting in India for ~4 years. I am happy to answer any questions that you might have about SOM or applications

I think you should spend a lot of time on introspection. Every individual has a unique story. Take some time to think about what has led you to MBA. Why you want to do an MBA and why now?
I have the most common profile. I have worked in the IT industry for many years. But there were many things which i demonstrated through my essays, video questions and interview that were very unique. So, profile does matter but you can always use your personal experiences to narrate your story.

What are you guys plans after MBA? Consulting? How much research into MBA programs did you put in? And when did you start?

I focussed a lot on my leadership experiences and community work that I was involved in. As you must already know, Yale SOM’s mission is to "Educate leaders for Business & Society". So, they give a lot of weightage to what an individual has done for the betterment of society. It’s worth exploring this aspect. Also, its good to have consistency in your story. So, make sure your essays, video questions, recommendations and interviews are all aligned to show a true picture of you.

Hi Khushboo,I’m still in college and I have 2 years to graduate. Is it possible to build a strong profile in 2 years to get into a good deferred mba program? Do you have any tips on how to build a strong profile? Also does interning at a firm with a big name really matters that much? Will it matter if I intern at small firms but do a great job?
