Greetings pranavmitrag!

We appreciate the time you've taken to share your profile. It's always stimulating to engage with someone who has navigated both corporate finance and entrepreneurship. Here's our evaluation:

- With a GMAT score of 720, you're well within the competitive range for INSEAD. The Quant score, while lower, isn't necessarily a deal-breaker, especially considering your demonstrated quantitative acumen in a high-stakes, finance-centric role.

- From an industry perspective, you bring a rare blend of finance and entrepreneurship to the table. Your aim to transition into management consulting post-MBA is reasonable, but it will be essential to convincingly tie your past experiences with your future goals in your application essays.

- Your work experience stands out, particularly the significant responsibilities you held at the Treasury department and the entrepreneurial venture. Be prepared to talk about these transitions, the skills you gained, and how they add value to your MBA cohort.

- A key next step would be to get started on your essays. Your story of transitioning from corporate finance to entrepreneurship and now aiming for management consulting will need careful crafting. INSEAD values diversity and seeks to understand how your experiences will contribute to their international environment.

- To address your concern, while your quant score is lower, your substantial financial responsibility at MNCs should be a solid counterpoint. Showcase your quantitative skills through your professional achievements.

We hope you find this analysis valuable. Don't hesitate to reach out for further queries. Best wishes!

Thank you for taking your time out to respond to my question. I am giving GMAT again, just to see if I can push a higher quant score and take that doubt off the table. That should be ok but don't let the GMAT be your overriding factor here. You are already on the higher side of experience. Retake the test by all means, and get a higher score if you feel you can, but seeing that the app is just ~1 month away, focus on the app as well. Like we had noted earlier, crafting your story, given the changes in your work profile (and in your post-MBA goals too) will be important.

Hi AnkPan

- Interesting profile. You had a natural progression from Job 1 to 2, but Job 3 is a pivot. While your versatility across roles is good, you will need to show the transferable skills to get into consulting.
- Your ECA is pretty good and gives you an advantage. Have you spent any time in a rural area as well in your current role?
- You have 10+ years of experience and (from what you've posted) it seems like not much international experience. That will make the going a bit hard at INSEAD.
- Belonging to an over-represented pool is not your key challenge. If you can get a solid GMAT (740+) you can aim for some good options in Europe, though not sure if INSEAD will be the best fit.

Thank you for taking your time out to respond to my profile.

As per the questions you have asked :

1. Internal Exposure :While I was working with TCS (Tata Consultancy Services ) as a software engineer I was working for an International Account where I had an opportunity to work with an international client.
2. Time in Rural Areas : Yes, I have spent time in rural areas where i helped a small scale industry to scale up their production , improve the marketing and help to gain more client in the near by cities thus helping them expand their business . In the present role also I am in the team which over see how to spread the acceptance and usage of this EdTech platform in the rural areas.

With your current understanding of my profile, what would you recommend ? Is there a very low chances to get into INSEAD and also to which colleges I should focus on (HEC etc ) also can you please suggest colleges in AISA (NUS-Singapore etc). Though I want to go in consulting post my MBA but I am very much open to other roles in Supply Chain Management etc.

Thanks for your response. #1 will not qualify as international experience, only as international exposure. #2 is certainly good and adds to your profile. In terms of schools, it's hard to definitely comment without a score, but assuming a score of ~720, you could look at HEC, IESE, Oxford (in Europe/UK), and IIMC/IIMA in the Asian region. NUS might be harder given the higher age and experience.

gmatloverop:

Good profile in terms of work experience and academic performance. We have concerns about lack of extracurricular achievements and a very unclear career goal. The latter needs to be fleshed out for INSEAD and other schools.

It'll be tough sledding, but if you can pull off a 730+ on the GMAT, you will have a puncher's chance. Is that doable? When are you applying?

Let us know if we can help,

You might have a shot at M7, more likely the lower-ranked schools in that category. HSW is going to be competitive.

The description of your GMAT score is strange; so you're saying you feel confident you can obtain a 720 or higher?

FWIW, IB is much more realistic. PE with your background doesn't make a ton of sense given the normal requirements for pre-MBA experience.

You showcase a solid foundation and consistent growth trajectory. Your academic record isn't entirely clear (for example your GPA, college pedigree), highlighting your high academic potential will undoubtedly strengthen your case. The audit sector and audit functions in general aren't primary feeders for top MBA programs due to the highly competitive nature of the industry. It is therefore, I see a lot of potential in shedding more light on the type of consulting projects you were involved with during your last job.

GMAT
Given your demographic, your projected GMAT score seems relatively low for an M7 school. Competition will be fierce, so a high GMAT score will be necessary to compete.

Now about your goals:
While your focus during your recent consulting projects isn't obvious, if private equity or venture capital is a new area for you, here is my perspective. You can demonstrate your motivation to grow professionally by, for example, interning, participating in projects, or shadowing industry leaders in entry-level positions within PE /VC (having some prior experience adds a lot of value). Even if you don't have much experience in this area, showcasing your willingness to go the extra mile significantly bolsters the credibility of your aspirations.

At the same time, being pragmatic is important. For example, let's say you're aiming for PE. In this case, it's imperative that you demonstrate your intimate knowledge of the current state of the PE industry in the geographic region you're targeting and, if applicable, present your network in this area. To illustrate, recent shifts in deal-making and fundraising due to interest rate increases, inflation, and geopolitical events, including the conflict in Ukraine, have had a significant impact on the PE industry, affecting both recruitment and funding of leveraged transactions. As a result, business schools expect a realistic assessment of how your background can strategically position you in the PE industry, specifically for a particular sector or region.

In addition, transitioning into a Tier 1 consulting role can serve as a viable path for eventual entry into IB/PE, especially after you have established solid credibility in a new region.

Thorough research and a well-structured plan outlining your path to achieving your goals will undoubtedly prove critical to standing out from the crowd and ensuring your success.

Your ECs are good.

Overall, I see much potential in your profile, but you must connect the dots to present a strong case to the M7 or INSEAD.

Best wishes

gmatloverop hope this finds you well

I am an INSEAD alumna and former INSEAD MBA admissions interviewer. The things that stand out for me in your profile are
1. Solid tech exposure
2. Association with feeder brands

However, you need to be strategic about finding the hooks in your experience. INSEAD has very clear criteria for the aspects on which it evaluates applicants, namely leadership, ability to contribute, international orientation, and academic prowess.

INSEAD sees a lot of pre-MBA techies applying to the program. You will have to execute your application well to stand out. Your professional recommendations will also need to be exemplary. You need to unpack your experiences and reconstruct your stories in a way that shows that working on high-impact projects has given you a much more hands-on experience and opportunity to engage with leaders from the industry, more experiential maturity, and more capability to contextualize business problems than most tech applicants.

Additionally, while international exposure can be a strength for INSEAD, the larger objective is to assess your ability to handle critical decision-making and team management in a cross-cultural context. "Culture" in this context is not limited to nationality, but extends to working with people who may hold different values, practices, beliefs, and ideologies. You may not have worked in an international setting purely, but you may have strong examples of leadership from working across levels to bring about a significant impact. Your diverse experiences and perspectives can make you a standout candidate for an MBA program.

Aim for a high GMAT score and reflect on your engagements outside of work that have generated impact.

Get tailored advice specific to your unique situation. We do not cap discussion hours for our applicants

As said in earlier posts, for INSEAD, you will need good GMAT scores, Good examples of demonstrated leadership, and good ECs.
It may actually be a good idea to first understand the WHY you really want INSEAD. And unless you have a solid reason to, my strong suggestion would be to start preparing a compelling story, and a very strong application, regardless of the final basket of MBA programs you apply to.

Decent stats; Would help to have a stellar GMAT for M-7; It would however, really help to first understand for your goals in Consulting and PE, you may have MBA programs that better fit your goals. Assuming you still don't have a GMAT score in hand, I would strongly suggest you to start preparing a compelling story, and a powerful application, regardless of the final basket of MBA programs you apply to.

Hello scrantonstrangler,

Thanks for writing in.

You have a strong overall profile and the only weak links we see are your GPA and GMAT score particularly since you are targeting the likes of INSEAD. The correct strategy (in case you do not wish to retake the GMAT) would be to apply to a larger number of schools including Stretch, Dream, and Practical schools.

The career goals look fine and they sync with your choice of schools as well.

What you really need to do at this point is to chalk out a compelling narrative for your essays and apply to schools that sync well with your story as well as your score.

Should you wish to discuss your prospects in greater detail, please feel free to reach out to us for a profile evaluation session.

All the best!
